Haley has always been compelled to explore and, hopefully, understand the mysteries of the universe. Following this passion has led her down a varied, but always exciting path. As a child, she would wonder in awe at nature–exploring, climbing, digging–examining everything in her world. This sense of wonder and love of nature propelled her into biological research at College of Charleston, SC. She loves people as much as she loves science, and her desire for meaningful connection with others led her to a career in acting and teaching. Touching others’ hearts through art has been as equally powerful as discovering the wonders of nature. Because she has never lost her childhood enthusiasm for science, she feels compelled to discover and foster the desire for discovery in children. As an educator, she has been blessed with the opportunity to inspire a new generation with a reverence for nature and exploration that will, hopefully, last for their entire lives. Her greatest wish is that her students never stop exploring their world.
Haley’s Background
Haley was born in Lake Charles, LA and grew up on the Isle of Palms, SC. She earned a Biology degree and a fine arts minor(emphasis on acting performance) from the College of Charleston, SC. She began reconciling the two with NASA-sponsored children’s shows and several years of touring, acting and directing all over the United States. In Minneapolis, Haley continued to foster her love for education, science, acting and music by helping create Cyprus Classical Montessori. She became a lead teacher, science coordinator, and assistant director of the school – all while blossoming as a stage and screen actress.
Haley has worked commercially as an onscreen actress and model, as well as print modeling. Her independent film experience is abundant. Most recently, her leading roles include three feature-length movies that premiered in 2010.
Haley with Untamed Science
Haley is currently an integral member of the Untamed Science team, where she began as a host. Within the past three years, she has written, hosted and produced an 80-video adventure series for young science students. Always finding ways to combine art and science, Haley coordinated and performed a science music video for each science topic in the series.
Haley with Sports and Adventure
Haley scuba dives, skydives, hang glides, and rock climbs – just to name a few. She has always been compelled to explore and, hopefully, understand the mysteries of the universe. Following this passion has led her down a varied, but always exciting path. This sense of wonder and love of nature propelled her into biological research. She love people as much as she loves science, and her desire for meaningful connection with others led her into this career path. Check out this music video that Haley produced about Gravity as she literally jumps out of an airplane by herself (not even as a tandem).
Haley and Food
Haley is food nut. She is an extremely creative cook who is highly influenced by her adventures. She grew up in the South, so she always brings southern cooking to her plates. But, she also brings influences from Africa and South America, places she’s traveled extensively. Here are a few cooking episodes from Untamed Science.
Haley as a Biologist
Haley is a biologist at heart and a science communicator by profession. She spent 2 weeks immersed in a baboon troop in Africa. She spent time roaming the amazon river. Her greatest accomplishments though may be managing her skills as a communicator while raising a family. Haley is passionate about raising awareness for Women in Science – as seen in this video. She as also directed the Untamed Science Elementary Series. Her next biology pursuit is to bring science to new parents – a demographic that is often overlooked, but one that needs good science that they can apply to their daily lives. Check out her work with that in The Curious Parent Episodes.
