How to Process Luffas and Make Sponges – No Matter the Age

Luffa sponges are one of the easiest sponges to create because they come from the inside of a gourd that can be easily grown in almost any climate. Technically the luffa “sponge” is from the xylem fibers inside of three different species in the genus Luffa – smooth luffa, angled luffa and wild luffa. Much of what we buy in the store is from the smooth luffa (or sometimes spelled loofah). In this short ecofact, Haley shows you how to process a luffa to create a beautiful sponge.
