Genus Manta - The Mantas
The genus Manta, contains two distinct forms. There is debate as to whether or not they should be two separate species. Currently they are listed as:
- Manta alfredi (Krefft, 1868): Prince Alfred’s manta, or the reef manta inhabits coastal reefs in tropical waters.
- Manta birostris (Walbaum, 1792): The Giant Manta migrates and is much larger than Prince Alfred’s manta
